Military Connect Configuration

Verify military status, tag approved customers, and configure the automatic discounts that should follow them through checkout.

How Military Connect works

The plugin verifies a customer once, adds a permanent Shopify tag, and lets your existing discount engine do the pricing work.

Customer logs in

The customer must be logged into their Shopify account before they can verify military status.

Customer verifies military status

The customer uses the Military Verification block on your cart page or another page you choose.

Customer receives a verification tag

After verification, the customer is tagged as mc_verified in Shopify. The tag stays with the customer account for future orders.

Discounts apply automatically

Your discount platform can target customers tagged mc_verified so the right discount is applied without shareable discount codes.

Required setup: configure discounts

Military Connect only verifies the customer and applies the mc_verified tag. Your discount rules still live in Shopify or in your preferred discount platform.

Important

This app does not create discount codes or set pricing. It only verifies military status and tags the customer account.

General setup instructions

  1. Create an automatic discount rather than a discount code.
  2. Set the discount value you want to offer.
  3. Target customers who have the mc_verified tag.
  4. Add any product, collection, or spend conditions you need.
  5. Save and activate the discount.

Standard Shopify: create an automatic discount, create a customer segment based on mc_verified, and target that segment. Shopify Plus: target the mc_verified customer tag directly.

Add the verification block to the store

After discount rules are ready, place the Military Verification app block on the cart page or another location that fits the buying journey.

Customer experience

First-time customer

  1. Adds items to cart.
  2. Sees the Verify Military Status block.
  3. Logs in if needed.
  4. Verifies with Military Connect.
  5. Receives the mc_verified tag in Shopify.
  6. Checks out and the automatic discount applies.

Returning customer

  1. Logs in to the store.
  2. Adds items to cart.
  3. Moves to checkout.
  4. Receives the automatic discount without verifying again.

One-time verification

Once the customer is verified and tagged, they do not need to go through verification again for future qualifying orders.

Troubleshooting

Discount not applying at checkout

  • Confirm the automatic discount is active.
  • Verify the discount targets the mc_verified customer tag.
  • Make sure the customer is logged in during checkout.
  • Check whether the discount expired or hit usage limits.
  • Verify the customer record actually contains the mc_verified tag.

Verification button not showing

  • Activate the plugin if it is not active yet.
  • Add the Military Verification app block in the Shopify theme editor.
  • Check the browser console for client-side errors while testing the flow.

How to confirm a customer is verified

  1. Open Shopify Admin and go to Customers.
  2. Open the customer profile.
  3. Inspect the customer tags.
  4. Confirm the record contains the mc_verified tag.
